Program Overview


Open to students with a strong master's level background in physics. During the first year, the students need to complete a set of mandatory courses and clear comprehensive examinations at the end of the year.


Selection Process


The Ph.D. program in Physical Science requires a minimum of 60% marks for General/General EWS candidates and 55% marks for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates. Applicants must possess a valid GATE score, a valid JEST score, or a valid CSIR/UGC-JRF/NET certificate. Additionally, DSIT-INSPIRE fellows are also eligible to apply. Shortlisted students will be called for an interview conducted by the department.Students can also apply based on their master's CGPA.

Program Structure


Students coming in with a master's degree need to earn a minimum of twelve credits. The doctoral committee could prescribe more courses if required. Students have to give a comprehensive exam and viva at the end of the first year.
