TITLE : Solving Problems in Atomic Superfluid Rotation with Cavity Optomechanics


ABSTRACT :

This talk will describe our ongoing work on annularly trapped Bose-Einstein condensates coupled to optical cavities using Laguerre-Gauss beams. Topics will include minimally destructive measurement of atomic rotation, superfluid drag and optical memories.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER :

Mishkat Bhattacharya is a professor of physics at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. His research in theoretical quantum optics has been recognized with an NSF Career award (2015), selected as one of the Breakthroughs of the Year by Optics and Photonics magazine (2019), and awarded a US patent (2024).
