TITLE : Droplets on a String: Protein Condensation on Stretched Biopolymers

ABSTRACT :

Phase separation of proteins and nucleic acids like DNA and RNA has emerged as a organizing mechanism inside cells. The biophysical principles that dictate the formation of phase separation and their physiological functions remain an intense area of research. Recent experiments have shown that various proteins condense in the vicinity of cellular surfaces, such as microtubule, DNA and membranes. The principles underlying condensation in the vicinity of cellular surfaces are not yet fully understood. I will present a simple theoretical framework to interpret recent experimental findings, drawing on examples of protein condensation on microtubules and membranes. I will also discuss the biological implications of these observations and results.
